Isurumuniya temple is one of oldest temple in Anuradhapura of Sri
Lanka which was made by king Dewanampiyathissa. The time of carring the Arm of
tooth relic to Sri Lanka king Dewanampiyathissa it in Isurumuniya temple.
The place of Isurumuniya is very beautiful. Isurumuniya is
famous for carvings. There is very beautiful pond inside the temple and there
are very beautiful carvings on the rock behind the pond. One of those is the
elephant bathing image. When the time pond fill in half of water this image seen
as the elephants sink half of its body in water. There is another image it
called " MiNISA SAHA ASHWAHISA" means man and horse head. Pro. Mr. Senarath
Paranawithana says that those carvings were created by 7th Century.
There is another stone carving item which may be made by 5 - 7
century. Its seen a kingdom. Most important stone carving item of Isuruuniya is
Isurumuni couple. Its very big couple image and made by stone carving. Those
Images related with "Gupptha" artist. Those carvings also created by 5th
century.
