After 1948 increase the farmers who cultivate potatoes in Sri Lanka Welimada and Alawathugoda village with experiments of Agriculture department of Sri Lanka. In 1953 - 54 seed  potatoes was exported and  divide with among the farmers.  After 1957 time there was a problem of  commutation. There fore potatoes cultivation became a essential thing. Then Rahangala Boralanda potatoes land with 8000acre was stated at 1956.

   By the way, In 1960 Indian specialist and German specialist came to Sri Lanka and  lot of experiments were done by them. After 1960 potatoes was distributed Kandapola, Nuwaraeliya, Meepilimana, Horton plains, Boralanda, Bogahakumbura, Keppetipola and other some places. Some period after cultivate in Horton plains was prohibited.

   After era potatoes became a main vegetable of Welimada and most person think that Welimada and Potatoes is same. Farmers thought that Badulla, Nuwaraeliya and Jaffna suitable for Potatoes. After 1980 potatoes didn't export and govenment farms supplied seed potatoes.

   People grows potatoes not only paddy but also Chena. Paddy field cultivation divided two parts and in Yala seoson all farmers used to cultivate potatoes. Main reason of cultivate potatoes is it can get good harvest in short period and it can earn much money. All Potatoes Farmers became financier from it.
