This is the Temple
which situated at Alawathugoda village.
Alawathugoda Wijayayawardanaramaya was
started at 1934 by Rev. Uwe Pngnananda Thero. Before the
1934 Temple of Alawathugoda was Temple of Kalabululanda.
But Villagers couldn't travel to Kalabululanda because
long distance. From 1934 to now this temple has good
history. There were two
greatest Buddhist monks in this temple. They are Rev.
Pandith Uwe pangnananda thero and Rev. Pandith Uwe
Silarathna thero. After Rev. Kinigama Dhammananda thero
became the chief incumbent of this temple.
Present chief
incumbent is Rev. Udoowara Dhamma Visudhdhi Thero who is
graduate in University of Sri Jayawardanapura, Sri Lanka
and teacher of Bogahakumbura Maha Vidyalaya,
Bogahakumbura.
Rev. Uwe Silarathana Thero made a branch in
Dehiwala to teach everything for monks called "Dehiwala
Shastrananda
Pirivena". During this period many Buddhist
monks studied in there.
This temple has
Dhamma School which is held on every Sunday and also has a
"Punya Grama" program to teach languages and improve
children's Information Technology knowledge. The Punya
Grama program is started with government contribution. Now
teaches English, Hindi, Japanese, Tamil and other
languages and also Information Tecnology.
This temple has
many development programs. There are many
committees to
maintain this programs. they are Temple development
society, Pagoda development society, Temple contribution
society and Vishaka women's committee. However those
societies try to develop this temple.
Alawathugoda Wijayayawardanaramaya was started at 1934.
